Heaven and Hell

Today during the homily our priest said something interesting. He told us of an eastern view of what the difference is between Heaven and hell. I'm sure that some of you have heard it before but it was new to me. According to the story, hell is a huge banquet hall. And in this hall, is a huge table with scrumptious food all over it. Everyone has long chopsticks attatched to their hands. As each person tries to get the food to their mouth, they fail because the chopsticks are too long. So you have all of these people starving to death, while sitting in front of a table of plenty. Heaven, so the story goes, is very much the same in that you have a very large table of wonderful food in an enormous banquet hall. In here the guests also have very long chopsticks attatched to their hands. The difference? In Heaven everyone is not trying to get the food to their own mouths. They are all feeding each other, and so everyone has plenty to eat.

Definitely food for thought (sorry, couldn't resist the pun), eh?
