Baptism

In December of 1964, one week before they celebrated their first Christmas together, my parents welcomed their first child--that would be my sister Elizabeth :-D. In honor of the occasion, my father's mother bought a baptismal gown for them. It was a beautiful gown with delicate embroidery on it. My mother used this same gown for all three of us, then packed it away. In May of 1988, my parents first grandchild was born--that would be Maggie :-D. When Alice brought her to NY for her Baptism she asked to use the same gown in which we had all been baptised. Well, that started a tradition that will be continued this Saturday.

This Saturday October 1, the feast day of St. Therese of Lisieux, Rachel will be baptised. The fact that her baptism falls on the Little Flower's feast day makes this day extra special. Ken and I have always had a special devotion to St. Therese and her "little way". This will also be our first child baptised in our new parish of St. Augustine. There is just nothing like seeing your children receive the sacraments--I never tire of it. What's really neat is that two short years after Rachel is baptised, Caity will be confirmed. Where does the time go!?
